U.S. soldiers conduct a weapons search in Baghdad today.
BAGHDAD - The bodies of 15 people were found shot dead in different parts of Baghdad in the past day, a police source said.
MAHAWEEL - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded nine in Mahaweel, just south of Baghdad, a police source said. Another police source said only six were wounded and one dead.
AMIRIYAT AL FALLUJA - Iraqi security forces battled al Qaeda insurgents in a village near Falluja on Wednesday and there were conflicting reports of casualties. The interior ministry said 80 insurgents were killed and 50 captured. Two police sources said dozens were killed. The U.S. military said it was not involved and could not confirm any numbers.
FALLUJA - A car bomb targeting a convoy of cars carrying guests at the wedding of an Iraqi policemen killed five people and wounded 10 in the western city of Falluja, a police source said.
ISKANDARIYA - Fierce clashes between insurgents and police left at least eight people dead and 11 wounded in the town of Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police sources said. Casualties were from both sides.
MUQDADIYA - Iraq and U.S. army killed approximately 10 insurgents, detained five others and seized four weapons caches during an operation on Monday in the town of Muqdadiya, 90 km (50 miles) northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
HABANIYA - Several mortar rounds landed in a residential district, killing four people and wounding 14 others on Wednesday night in the town of Habaniya, 85 km (50 miles) west of Baghdad, police said.
BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded four others near Beirut square in northeastern Baghdad, police said.
NEAR KIRKUK - Two U.S. pilots were injured when a U.S. Army OH-58 Kiowa helicopter made a "hard landing" south of Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad. Initial reports said the cause was a mechanical problem, not hostile fire, the U.S. military said in a statement.
MOSUL - A roadside bomb exploded near the convoy of Lieutenant-General Wathiq al-Hemdani, the head of police in the northern city of Mosul, killing one of his security guards, police said. Al-Hemdani was unharmed.
BAGHDAD - The bodies of 10 people were found shot dead on Wednesday in different districts of Baghdad, police said.
MOSUL - The bodies of six people, including two who had been decapitated, were found on Wednesday in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
NEAR RAMADI - U.S. troops said they killed two insurgents and detained six just west of Ramadi in western Iraq, a U.S. military statement said.
